Nickelodeon have announced a brand new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series.

Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be a 2-D animated series of 26 episodes in its first season and will premiere in the fall of 2018. Andy Suriano (Samurai Jack character designer) and Ant Ward (supervising producer on the current Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series) are producing the series.

The series is said to broaden the Turtles universe by featuring new villains and a "more mystical New York City," as the four protagonists discover a magical world beneath the city's streets while also gaining strange new mystic ninja powers.

President of Nickelodeon, Cyma Zarghami, said the creative team are "excited for the new series to take the characters in a different direction with more humor, a younger and lighter feel and all-new dimensions to explore."

The network has yet to announced the finale date for the current CG-animated Turtles series but has promised that the brand new episode will continue to air with the premier date set for March 19th.
