Top Gun: Maverick Release Date And Director Announced
It’s official. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer took to Twitter to announce that Oblivion director Joseph Kosinski will helm Top Gun: Maverick, the long-awaited sequel to Top Gun.
According to IGN, Bruckheimer also confirmed that the sequel is set to hit theatres on July 12, 2019. Kosinski was the first choice for both Paramount and Skydance Pictures; having previously worked with star Tom Cruise who was reportedly looking for another project to work together on.
As to what the film will be about, earlier last month, Cruise discussed the tone of Top Gun: Maverick, saying the sequel is "going to be a competition film like the first one, and it's going to be in the same vein and the same tone as the first," while also being "a progression for Maverick."
Top Gun: Maverick will roar into theatres on July 12, 2019.
