Fate of the Furious Trailer: Charlize Theron's Cipher Masterminds A Ton of Car Hacking Fun

She’s not called Cipher for nothing, it turns out Charlize Theron’s aforementioned character is something of a car stealing mastermind in the latest absolutely crazy trailer for The Fate of the Furious aka Fast 8 aka the death of the family.

Thanks to the new trailer, we now know that like Tej Parker (Ludacris), Cipher is a hacker of sorts — but instead of focusing on computers specifically, Cipher is more interested in hacking cars.  According to a debrief from Mr. Nobody (Kurt Russell), she’s the “very definition of high-tech terrorism.”

Making cars rain down on everyone, the trailer also lets slip that she’s been hidden the shadows, working behind the scenes in places like Abu Dhabi, London and now Cuba. That means her storyline goes back to Fast and Furious 6 and Fast 7, even though we didn’t see her.

Why is that important? Well, that was the introduction of Dom and his family’s other adversaries: Deckard (Jason Statham) and Owen Shaw (Luke Evans). We know that in this movie, Deckard is teaming up with Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) to help track down Dom and save him from Cipher, but the question is whether or not Cipher is aware of the Shaw brothers.

It’s likely then that Cipher’s story will incorporate events from the previous movies, although we’re still yet to find out exactly what she has on Dom to make him switch sides.

Fate of the Furious hits theatres on April 14.
