First Teaser for Bong Joon-Ho's Okja
Snowpiercer’s Bong Joon-Ho is back in the sci-fi genre for creature feature Okja, which will be released via Netflix (which should bring a sigh of relief for those in the UK still awaiting Snowpiercer’s release).
Okja focuses on a young woman named Mija (Seo-Hyeon Ahn) who befriends a giant animal which suddenly attracts the attention of a powerful, multi-national corporation from getting its greedy mitts on her new pal - and who better to represent a faceless, malignant corporation than previous Joon-Ho collaborator Tilda Swinton.
Then there’s the director himself, whose allegiances are clear from this statement: “It is a bulky animal, but with a mild and kind spirit. The film is about a warm friendship between a country girl and a brute with stories. To me, the crazy world surrounding Okja and the girl looks more like a monster. I want to depict the two characters' bizarre journey and adventure across the tough world in an original fashion."
Staring Jake Gyllenhaal, Giancarlo Esposito, Paul Dano, Lily Collins and Steven Yeun Okja will stream on Netflix from 28th June.
