Is Robert Downey Jr. Set to Remake Perry Mason with True Detective Creator?

As far as mismatched buddies go, one is the MCU’s main man and the other is still reeling from the critical drubbing True Detective received but together, they just might relaunch Perry Mason.

That’s right, Robert Downey Jr and Nic Pizzolatto are to collaborate on a new HBO show – and it could very well be Downey Jr’s long-standing Perry Mason remake.

According to Variety, the pair are to work on the new cable show that, if all goes to plan, could fill the Game of Thrones sized hole in your life when winter finally comes to that show. Actual hard evidence is thin on the ground but it may well be the next evolution of the Perry Mason reboot that Downey Jr. and wife/producing partner Susan Downey had been looking at for a potential big screen update of the famous Raymond Burr staring drama which saw Defence Attorney Mason, draw out a confession from the real criminal from the witness stand.

The role would be filled by Downey Jr. which would be his first TV role since appearing in Ally McBeal.

As for Pizzolatto, well True Detective appears to be on hold after audiences and critics turned against the show following a decidedly poor second series.

Responding to the fate of the show, HBO’s new programming chief Casey Bloys, told the media at the recent Television Critics Association summer press tour, that: "It is not dead, but there's no take on a third season yet."
