One half of the directing duo behind the Avengers: Infinity War have confirmed that Brie Larson will not make an appearance as Captain Marvel in first film next year.

The news follows hot on the heels of a slew of Captain Marvel announcements including the confirmed appearance of Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury, the fact that the movie is set in the 1990s, and that the film will introduce the legendary Skrulls into the MCU.

Infinity War co-director Joe Russo confirmed that Larson will not be in the third Avengers film while speaking with Comicbook.com this past weekend, saying:

“She’s not in Avengers 3.”

The director, however, did not elaborate on Marvel’s big screen plans for the character, or what her involvement may be in the currently untitled Avengers 4, which the Russo’s are also directing, and will be hitting theatres in 2019, just one year after Infinity War does – with Captain Marvel to be the last Marvel film before the second Infinity War movie, it’s likely that she’ll appear.

Avengers: Infinity Wars is due to hit cinemas on May 4th, 2018. Captain Marvel will arrive in cinemas on March 8th, 2019.
