Disney Pressing Ahead With Maleficent 2

Working on a sequel that isn’t Tron, Disney are set to plunder the vaults and bring us another installment of one of their most successful transitions of animation to live action films with Maleficent 2.

The first film, which told the backstory of Sleeping Beauty’s villain, grossed over $750 million at the worldwide box office, has proven to be one of the biggest films of 2015. Deadline is reporting that the studio has hired Linda Woolverton, who penned the first film, to begin work on the follow up.

While Angelina Jolie, who played the titular villainess, has yet to confirm, it’s hard to see how it would work without her – it’s a familiar position for the actress, having toyed with sequels to both Salt and Wanted before ultimately cooling on the projects.

Robert Stromberg, who directed the original, has yet to confirm too.
