Alden Ehrenreich Will Be The Young Han Solo

Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the directingduo behind The LEGO Movie and the pair charged with bringing the young Han Solomovie to the big screen, have chosen their scruffy lookin’ nerf herder.
After a long casting process, Hail,
Caesar!'s Alden Ehrenreich has clinched it. You’re looking at the new pilot of
the Millennium Falcon says The Hollywood Reporter.
However, as nothing official has been
announced yet, we still have to drape this story with the rumour tarp but Ehrenreich
is in final negotiations to don the vest and pick up the blaster for the Star
Wars standalone, according to sources, which centres on a younger version of
the franchise favourite.
His potential casting follows an extensivesearch to find the right actor to take over the role made famous in a career
defining turn by Harrison Ford. 2,500 potential Hans were whittled down to a
trio of hot young actors including: Hail, Caesar!'s Ehrenreich, Kingsman actor
Taron Egerton and Transformers: Age of Extinction's Jack Reynor. Miles Teller,
Ansel Elgort and Brooklyn breakout Emory Cohen were among those on the
shortlist in earlier rounds.
For the Disney and Lucasfilm production,Lord and Miller, of 21 Jump Street and Lego Movie fame, will direct from a
script from father-son writing duo, Lawrence and Jon Kasdan – Lawrence, need
you be reminded was one of the main writer for last years Star Wars: The Force
Awakens and the seminal The Empire Strikes Back.
Story details are currently bundled away in
the Falcon’s smuggling hideouts but the elder Kasdan told Empire that we won’t
be getting a traditional origin story.
“It will not be, ‘Here’s where he was born
and this is how he was raised.’ I think what it will be is, ‘What was he like
10 years earlier?’... But Akira Kurosawa once said the heroes are the ones that
are still changing and the villains are locked and petrified into what they
are.”
Sounds promising indeed.
The
Han Solo spin-off is scheduled for release in 2018.
