Sony Announces Animated Spider-Man Feature From Lego Movie Team
Sony may have reached a deal with Marvel studios to co-produce a live-action Spider-man in the MCU, but it appears they're also working on an independent animated feature.
Not much is known about the project at this time, beyond the fact that this spider-man will have no ties to Marvel's cinematic universe, allowing Sony to do whatever they want with the wall-crawler.
This may sound like bad news to spider-fans everywhere given Sony's track record, however Sony also announced that Christopher Miller and Phil Lord will be writing the script and producing the movie. You may recognise Miller and Lord from the fact that every movie they have written or directed becoming a critical and commercial success, such as The Lego Movie, and 21 and 22 Jump Street.
Beyond this scan information nothing else has been announced as of yet, except a release date of July 20 2018 in the US. This date is interesting in itself, of course, as it is almost exactly a year after the planned release date for Spider-man within the MCU of July 28 2017.
