London Has Fallen Pushed Back to March 2016 in US

Further bad news for anyone eagerly awaiting the release of London has Fallen – the follow up to the Gerard Butler 2013 action flick, Olympus has Fallen. Its release date has been pushed back again in the states from its January 2016 slot to March 4th.

The film, which was originally due to hit screens in Autumn 2015, was pushed back to what is commonly referred to as the cinematic graveyard of January – where studios tend to release Oscar hopefuls and bury bad news in the wake of their critical appraisal.

Whether it was a canny piece of counter-programming or a sign of a lack of faith in the film is neither here nor there now.

However, it’s not all bad news, London‘s release date change stems from a couple of factors, in particular, the film is coming off strong research screenings, making a spring break launch prime for the sequel. In addition, more time is needed to complete the film’s VFX.

Focus Features president of domestic distribution Jim Orr told Deadline, “We’re convinced that we have the potential for a successful film with London Has Fallen and we want to give it all the time it needs in its production and put it in the strongest possible release window.”

Let’s not forget either, Olympus has Fallen had the same release month and it managed a $30.4M opening weekend and a domestic cume of $98.9M – more than justifying this second shot at box office glory.

There's no news yet of a change in the UK's release date but we expect a similar announcement soon.
