Production is underway on the sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them and to celebrate getting the ball rolling, Warner Bros. have released a very Dumbledore-centric synopsis.
It had already been announced that wizard Albus Dumbledore would make his debut alongside returning characters like Newt Scamander, but the untitled sequel gives Dumbledore a much bigger role than expected.
Jude Law will play the young Dumbledore who will work alongside Eddie Redmayne’s Newt Scamander to defeat their common enemy – who will be Gellert Grindelwald, played by Johnny Depp, who’s the most powerful dark wizard known to the magical world. So while screenwriter J.K. Rowling is reluctant to fully go back to the world of Harry Potter, she is beginning to fill out the intriguing stories around the main trio of Harry, Ron, and Hermione.
According to The Daily Telegraph, joining returning cast members Katherine Waterston, Alison Sudol and Dan Fogler will be a host of new characters, including Zoë Kravitz as Leta Lestrange, Scamanader's mysterious old school friend and former love interest (glimpsed in the first film in a photograph), and War & Peace star Callum Turner as Scamander's intimidating-sounding older brother Theseus, an "Auror and war hero".
It also sounds as though a wizarding circus will play a significant part in the plot: South Korean actress Claudia Kim has been cast as a young woman who stars in the circus as one of the attractions, while Ólafur Darri Ólafsson plays Skender, the circus boss.New cast members also include French star William Nadylam as a wizard named Yusuf Kama, and Icelandic actor Ingvar Sigurdsson as a bounty hunter named Grimmson.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2 will magic its way into cinemas on 16 November 2018.
