Mojang Gears Up For a Host of New Features in Minecraft

A heap of new features are coming to Minecraft after being revealed during an 'upcoming features' panel at Minecraft. Amongst the news, dual-wielding will soon be implemented with the ability to equip a secondary item in their lesser hand. For example, you could hold another of the upcoming features: a shield.

Enchanted arrows are also on their way for those who prefer the long-range arsenal. A list of arrow types is expected as soon as the team balances the options out. A pair of arrows have been revealed; a spectral arrowhead and a glow arrowhead, the latter of which paints the enemy so you can track them.

If you've found it hard to keep track of your character's status, a Buff Bar will soon be included in the top-right of the screen. It will be dual-layered: the top shows what positive buffs are affecting your while the bottom shows negative ailments.

In other news, The End will be getting an overhaul, expanding from an island to a complete area like The Nether. The expanded End City will require some slick moves to reach the highest point but, if you can't clamber to the top, you'll be able to use an enemy's projectiles to levitate.

As for the Ender Dragon, it's going to become a real challenge with updated mechanics. If you've already defeated it, craftable Ender Crystals will bring it back to life but you won't be able to nab another egg.

Another portal is set to be included for you to reach the new areas but, apparently, it'll be a single block high and one block wide...

Official dates for all these updates haven't been confirmed but expect to see them in the near future.
