Suicide Squad Director David Ayer Talks Gotham City Sirens

Suicide Squad director David Ayer has sat down with IGN at SDCC '17  to explain his decision to pass on a follow up to that movie in favour of directing Gotham City Sirens.

And his reasoning is surprisingly personal.

“It's a story about three fantastic women who're trying to find their way in the world, and realize that they have more power together than they do individually." He added, "I have daughters, and I want to create something that might be able to help them get along in the world a little bit."

The Gotham City comic, written by Batman: The Animated Series' creator Paul Dini, follows the trio of Harley Quinn, Catwoman, and Poison Ivy, and their adventures around Gotham City.

When pressed about the possible change of appearance for Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn in the movie, he was rather cagey: “Let's put a pin in that. Maybe next Comic-Con." He did tease a bit, adding, "Everybody evolves."

Ayer signed on to direct Gotham City Sirens in December, though there remains the question of whether or not Jared Leto will reprise his role as The Joker, as recent rumours point towards Black Mask being the main antagonist.

The film doesn't have a release date yet, but Warner Bros. Pictures has set two dates in 2020 for unspecified DC films.
