Hugh Jackman has shared the first image from the Jason Reitman directed The Front Runner.

Taking to Twitter Jackman revealed the first image from the movie that has just begun principle photography.

The film, which is Reitman’s first politicised movie since Thank You For Smoking, sees Jackman is playing real-life US politician Gary Hart, a charismatic senator from Colorado became the Democratic frontrunner for the presidential nomination in 1988. All seemed to be going well with his campaign until a political and personal landmine detonated, with news breaking that he had had an affair, and he dropped out of the race. The rest of the story saw Michael Dukakis scoring the nomination and losing to George HW Bush.

Reitman co-wrote the screenplay with political journalist Matt Bai and former Hilary Clinton press secretary Jay Carson, adapting Bai's 2015 book All the Truth Is Out: The Week Politics Went Tabloid.

Addressing the theme of the personal becoming the political, the film could not be more timely.

Co-starring J.K. Simmons, Vera Farmiga, Mamoudou Athie, Josh Brener, Sarah Paxton, Ari Graynor and Tommy Dewey, The Front Runner currently has no release date.
