Wreck-It Ralph Sequel Arriving in 2018

It wasn’t a secret as such but it’s now officially confirmed, Wreck-It Ralph 2 will be with us in 2018.

In an announcement via Facebook Live, Disney confirmed what John C. Reilly has been saying for a while now; Ralph will return.

Rich Moore, who directed the original and returns for the sequel along with Phil Johnston (a writer on the first stepping up to co-direct this one), made the announcement and let Reilly talk up the basic concept: Ralph leaves the arcade, and wrecks the internet.

So if you were wondering exactly what he was going to wreck after pretty much saving the world of the Arcade, well, now you have your answer.

There’s no word yet on whether the rest of the cast are returning but it’s a fair bet that Sarah Silverman’s Vanellope will join Reilly in the follow up.

The first film grossed over $471m, a more than respectable return on its $150m+ budget, while pleasing nostalgic gamers and family film audiences worldwide.

What’s more exciting is the rumour that the Disney Feature Animation team will be able to play with power this time around after Nintendo gave them permission to use celebrated characters like Mario and Luigi in the sequel.

The one downside to all this – other than the long wait – is that another Disney film, Gigantic, a re-working of Jack and the Beanstalk has been pushed out of its original release date and into a November 2018 slot.
