Amongst a slew of new premiere dates, Netflix have announced the first season of an animated Castlevania series will be coming to the streaming service this year.
Netflix revealed that episode one of season one will air at an unannounced air date sometime this year. The season will also consist of four half hour episodes.
According to Netflix's official description of the series, Castlevania will focus on the game franchise's Belmont clan, as it follows "the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of Vlad Dracula Tepe himself."
Speaking with IGN, producer Adi Shankar confirmed that the series will be an adaptation of Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse and that the show, which counts Warren Ellis as one of its writers and producers, would be in a Game of Thrones vein.
He also said that the show would not shy away from the game series ‘M for Mature’ rating "[The series is] going to be R-rated as f***," he said, before adding “this is going to be the best f*****g video game adaptation we've had to date."
Shankar is executive producing alongside Ellis, Kevin Kolde, and Fred Seibert. while Seibert's Frderator Studios is behind the animation…that’s right, the guys who made Adventure Time are making a Castlevania series! How cool is that!
