ReBoot Gets Rebooted as Live Action Show
We’ve reached peak reboot. ReBoot is being rebooted as a live action show and nothing will be the same again.
ReBoot first aired in 1994 on YTV in its native Canada and ABC US and was the first television show to made entirely using CGI. The story was set inside a computer and focused on the residents of a city called Mainframe, which would find itself disrupted by both the actions of The User – the owner of the computer – and villainous viruses Hexadecimal and Megabyte. Mainframe was primarily protected by a heroic guardian named Bob, and his pals Enzo and Dot Matrix.
The show which ran intermittently until 2001 when the plug was pulled on Mainframe. However, the nostalgia factor is strong and, with the rights being held by Rainmaker entertainment and a planned trilogy of animated movies falling by the wayside, the decision was made a few years ago to reboot ReBoot as a live action show.
Granted a 26-episode run back in 2015, everything went dark on the project, which is called ReBoot: The Guardian Code, until now.
As first images go its…not all that exciting. Unless you fancy a banana, then it’s very exciting.
The official press release says:
"After playing the multiplayer Cyber Guardians video game together, four teenagers are recruited by V.E.R.A (Hannah Vandenbygaart, Bruno & Boots: Go Jump in the Pool!), the Virtual Evolutionary Recombinant Avatar, to fulfill their mandate to mend and defend cyberspace. Austin (Ty Wood, The Haunting in Connecticut), Tamra (Sydney Scotia, Some Assembly Required), Parker (Ajay Parikh-Friese, Mr. Young), and Trey (Gabriel Darku, Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments) now must protect cyberspace from threats that pose true consequences to both the virtual and real world. It’s more than these kids expected when they started at Alan Turing High. Way more."
The series reportedly began filming in February 2017, so it’s quite possible that the first episodes could hit YTV before the year comes to a close.
