Black Lightning and Gifted Likely to Get Full Season Order
Both Black Lightning and Gifted look likely to get full season orders by their respective networks, thanks to early buzz and positive response to footage so far.
Black Lightning centres on Jefferson Pierce, a retired superhero with electricity-based powers, and was ordered to pilot for The CW while Gifted is the working title for FOX’s latest X-Men spin-off project, a Marvel drama about a family with mutant children on the run from the Sentinels. It’s no surprise that Black Lightning was picked up for a full season.
Berlanti’s DC Universe on The CW is hugely successful; however, the show has had a chequered inception, it was first produced by FOX, and then brought over to The CW, complete with a rewrite of the existing script.
Gifted meanwhile was less of a sure thing, with FOX only capitalising on the X-Men universe this year with the debut of the trippy Legion, whose success has paved the way for future Marvel TV shows on Fox. Black Lightning and Gifted do not yet have confirmed release dates.
