The Witcher Netflix Series Begins Production

Netflix has snared the dark-fantasy world of Andrzej Sapkowski's Witcher saga as production begins at the Polish studio Platige Image.

Platige already have considerable experience working with the Witcher universe as they were involved with game developer CD Projekt RED and their RPG franchise The Witcher based off the same novels.

The Netflix series isn't connected to CD Projekt RED.

"I'm thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories," said Sapkowski in a press release, "staying true to the source material and themes that I have spent over 30 years writing. I'm excited about our efforts together as well as the team assembled to shepherd these characters to life."

It's unclear whether The Witcher from Netflix will be live action or animation-based given Platige is an animation and film studio, and those rather teasing cinematic intros for the game series came from Platige. CD Projekt RED has ended its tenure with The Witcher following their last game, but haven't completely ruled out a possible return. Author Andrzej Sapkowski was rather scathing on the RPG series saying it 'amounted to nothing' in furthering interest in his own works.

Enjoy Platige Image and CD Projekt RED's open cinematic for The Witch 3: Wild Hunt in the mean time.
