Gary Dauberman Hired to Write It Sequel
It writer Gary Dauberman has been hired by New Line to write the follow up to Stephen King’s clown-based nightmare fuel.
While it was always the intention to spilt the gargantuan novel into two – the book follows the Losers Club over two time periods, one in childhood, the other in adulthood where their lives intersect with Pennywise the Clown (played in the new movie by Bill Skarsgård) – the follow up to this new adaptation, which has already garnered positive reviews and looks set to perform well at the box office, was never officially greenlit.
Dauberman is one of three credited writers on the first film, joining Chase Palmer and Cary Fukunaga, who worked on drafts while he was planning to direct, only to leave citing creative differences. Andy Muschietti ended up in the director's chair, and while he hasn't locked in a deal to return, he's said in interviews that he's already planning for the second movie.
There's no official release date for the follow-up yet, but we can expect it within the next couple of years.
