Matt Dillon Playing a Serial Killer in Lars Von Trier's The House That Jack Built

Matt Dillon will play a serial killer for Lars Von Trier in The House that Jack Built.

The fact that he’s a serial killer and the name Jack is in the title has made people immediately assume that this has something to do with ‘Saucy Jack’ himself Jack the Ripper (Dillon as the Ripper is the kind of crazy that I’m on board), but the truth appears to be that he’ll be playing a killer inspired by Jack.

Dillon will be the title character, a smart killer trying to perfect what he sees as art, while Bruno Ganz will play the mysterious Verge, who talks to him about his actions and thoughts. It'll be set across a 12-year period from the 1970s into the 1980s, but presented in non-linear fashion, jumping around in time.

"The two gentlemen have each figured as milestones in my cinematic development," says von Trier. "Besides being an epochal match, they are excellent actors and fit quite organically into ‘my cinematic family.’ I look forward with pleasure and pride to working with them both."

There’s the small matter of casting four important female roles and then filming will commence in Trollhattan, Sweden and Copenhagen, Denmark next spring.
