Wolfgang Peterson's classic war movie Das Boot is set to return to the big screen once again over three decades later. The original film was released all the way back in 1981. German studio Bavaria – the company behind the original movie – has announced that they currently have a remake in the works.

Set during World War II, the film tells the fictional story of U-96 and its crew. It depicts both the excitement of battle and the tedium of the fruitless hunt, and shows the men serving aboard U-boats as ordinary individuals with a desire to do their best for their comrades and their country. The screenplay used an amalgamation of exploits from the real U-96, a Type VIIC-class U-boat.

The original Das Boot starred Jurgen Prochnow, Herbert Gronemeyer and Klaus Wennemann. No details have been released as to who will make up the new cast for the reboot, and the movie currently has no tentative release window.
