First Tomb Raider Trailer Unveiled

After releasing the first poster – which featured a weirdly long-necked Lara Croft – the first trailer for Warner Bros/MGM’s Tomb Raider has been unveiled.

Staring Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft, you’ll be surprised to hear that it closely resembles the Tomb Raider game from 2013 and its sequel Rise of the Tomb Raider, with scenes and plot points lifted straight from both games.

Directed by Roar Uthaug (The Wave), the film explores Lara Croft’s origins by going back to the beginning of her career as an adventurer, as she sets out on a mission to find her long-lost father, played by Dominic West.  Vikander is front and centre of the action-driven footage here, which teases the lengths she’ll have to go to and the odds she’ll have to surmount to find and save her father.

It’s clear that Warner Bros. are banking on Vikander to propel Tomb Raider into a viable franchise. Tomb Raider will start raiding cinemas on March 16, 2018.
