The official release for the massively multiplayer shooter PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has been pushed back from an 'ambitious' October to Q4 2017.

The studio still plans to fully launch the game before we reach 2018 but they didn't feel a specific month was a good idea any longer and would disappoint the community if not met. Weekly and monthly updates will continue as normal.

"...we have decided that we are going push the full launch back a bit from the initial six-month timeframe, but want to assure you that we are still planning a full release before the end of Q4 2017," read a Steam community update.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is available to buy and play right now as a Steam Early Access title. It's a last-man-standing battle royale set across an 8x8 km island as players whittle each other down as they scavenge for weapons and supplies.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds releases on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in Q4 2017.
