Today, Square-Enix held a special presentation event during which they announced their latest core entry to the Dragon Quest series: Dragon Quest XI: In Search of the Departed Time, confirmed for both PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS.

Right at the end of the presentation, the words "Nintendo NX" slipped from the stage, confirming that Square-Enix is considering developing the title for Nintendo's upcoming platform, it seems the decision has not yet been made.

As for the game itself; the PlayStation 4 edition is under development in the Unreal Engine 4 with hopes to use the system to its full capacities. The Nintendo 3DS edition is under development by the same core members, and will follow the same story.

During the PlayStation 4 gameplay presentation, we caught a glimpse of how the protagonist will be able to interact with the world such as jumping and climbing on the field and inside towns. NPC's will be visible from long distance and monsters will wander the outside world as opposed to random battles.

As for the Nintendo 3DS, the top-screen will show a familiar 3DS art style while the bottom screen has been given a SNES makeover for both a map screen and battle window.

Square-Enix will attempt to have the game on Japanese streets within the series' 30th anniversary. An international release has not been confirmed but, if you're interested, be sure to track the game's release date on our online calendar.
