Nintendo Wii U's untitled game 'Project Giant Robot' has been cancelled, Nintendo has confirmed, following a long silence on the game.

“We made this decision after considering our overall product and development strategy,” Nintendo said in a statement to Polygon as the site asked why it was missing from their earnings report.

Project Giant Robot was shown at E3 2014 for the Nintendo Wii U but then fell off the radar. Shigeru Miyamoto had demoed the untitled project alongside two other titles that would go on to become Star Fox Zero and Star Fox Guard. In Project Giant Robot you used the Wii U controller to control a giant robot knocking over buildings and fighting foes across a city.

As Polygon continued to note, Nintendo are developing their last first-party title - The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - for the Nintendo Wii U before focusing exclusively on the Nintendo Switch and handhelds. The Nintendo Switch launches March 3rd with Breath of the Wild a launch title.
