Pillars Of Eternity II: Deadfire Announced

Obsidian Entertainment has announced Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire as well as a crowd-funding campaign over on Fig, asking for $1.1 million from backers.

The campaign has only just started but already they're over 85% of their goal as of writing and the development team is getting stretch goals prepped to encourage more people to throw cash at their screen. Obsidian had heavily suggested they were working on a sequel.

They've been busy too having already worked a number of significant advancements in what they have teased so far in their Fig campaign. The God Eothas has returned to the world and the cheeky blinder has animated a giant stone titan that was buried beneath the player fortress of Caed Nua. His awakening completely destroys the fortress and leaves us nearly dead. "To save your soul, you must track down the wayward god and demand answers - answers which could throw mortals and the gods themselves into chaos," reads the Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Fig campaign.

"Your hunt takes you to the Deadfire Archipelago. Located even farther east than the colonies of the Eastern Reach, Deadfire comprises hundreds of islands spanning thousands of miles - ranging from lush tropics to barren deserts. Many of these lands have never been charted, while others are inhabited by rich native cultures and a new wave of colonial settlers."

There is a dramatic shift in what you can expect in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire such as NPCs now having their own timetable and lives to lead - including their reactions to dynamic weather like heavy rainfall. Visually the CRPG is getting a big overhaul with character models detailed far higher with more unique animations, such as smoking a pipe. At least three companion characters are confirmed to be returning.

Obsidian are also teasing we'll get to continue the story we began as the Watcher of Caed Nua in the original Pillars of Eternity by having certain key decisions carry over into Deadfire from the Dyrwood. Check out the Fig campaign for Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire for more information.

Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire is in development for PC, Mac and Linux for Q1 2018.
