Yakuza Kiwami Release Date Announced

The Western release of Yakuza Kiwami - which is a remake of the original PlayStation 2 game - has been given a date in late August when it comes to PlayStation 4.

This is a HD revival of the beloved franchise where the legendary Kazuma Kiryu, the Dragon of Dojima, debuted to the world. The Yakuza has been a traditionally Japan-only game with later sequels slow to eventually cross international waters.

Our anti-hero protagonist Kazuma Kiryu is having some pretty rotten luck as the Yakuza series begins after he faces 10 years in prison for the murder of his family patriarch (which he's innocent), he gets expelled by his clan from the yakuza, with $100 million missing from the clan treasury, and his childhood sweetheart is missing. What follows is a slow unravelling of deadly betrayal and underworld politics.

"Not just a simple graphical upgrade, Kiwami adds nearly 30 minutes of cutscenes alone, providing all-new insight into the game's plot and creating common threads with series prequel Yakuza 0. There's also added distractions (Pocket Circuit car racing, MesuKing: Battle Bug Beauties, new hostesses, and more), side quests, combat updates, re-recorded Japanese dialogue, and more to bring the original Yakuza game into the latest console generation."

The game has been built from the ground up with new high definition assets in 1080p at 60 frames per second.

Yakuza Kiwami releases on PlayStation 4 August 29th, 2017.
