Heavenly and demonic forces have conspired to get Preacher onto the airwaves next year as AMC has signed up the comic book adaptation for a full run starring Dominic Cooper.

The project has been moving forward quickly since AMC took interest and it's now moved into development of its pilot as well as having a full series to start hammering. Seth Rogen, who is attached as a writer and producer, made the announcement via twitter.

"Preacher is coming to AMC! @evandgoldberg @SamCatlin123! The beginning is nigh!!!" he tweeted.

What is the Preacher as a comic book series?

"Preacher tells the story of Jesse Custer, a preacher in the small Texas town of Annville. Custer is accidentally possessed by the supernatural creature named Genesis in an incident which killed his entire congregation and flattened his church."

"Genesis, the product of the unauthorized, unnatural coupling of an angel and a demon, is an infant with no sense of individual will. However, as it is composed of both pure goodness and pure evil, it might have enough power to rival that of God Himself. In other words, Jesse Custer, bonded to Genesis, may have become the most powerful being in the universe."

The pilot episode of Preacher will debut in 2016. It was hinted at for April but now just stands as '2016'.
