Star Trek: Khan TV Show In The Works
KHHHAAANNNN you believe it! Star Trek: Discovery’s launch may be just around the corner but it isn’t the only Star Trek TV show in the works. Nicholas Meyer, the director of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, is reportedly developing a series spotlighting the franchises greatest villain Khan.
A late 20th century revolutionary, Khan Noonien Singh, was the highlight of a stripped down, leaner follow up to the critically and financially under-performing Star Trek: The Motion Picture.
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, saw Khan (a character from the TV series episode ‘Space Seed’) and his followers exiled to the planet Ceti Alpha V to start a new society. Shortly after their arrival, a neighbouring planet exploded, making Ceti Alpha V a barren desert planet. Set 15 years after their arrival, The Wrath of Khan saw Khan seeking vengeance against Kirk and the Enterprise crew.
According to Geek Exchange, Meyer is developing a limited series that would fill in the gaps between ‘Space Seed’ and The Wrath of Khan, as Khan and his followers try to survive on a ravaged planet. If accurate, this report means that the prequel series is the mystery Star Trek project that Meyers previously-mentioned he was working on.
There’s no doubting the pedigree involved here but there are a few lingering questions, such as who will play Khan, a role inhabited by the late, great Ricardo Montalban and Benedict Cumberbatch in 2013’s Star Trek Into Darkness.
Whoever takes the role, this is certainly exciting news for Trekkies.
