Sherlock Co-Creator Uncertain of Shows Future

Now that Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are bona fide movie stars – both forging their own paths in the Marvel universe – it’s getting increasingly difficult to reunite the pair for another go at super sleuth series Sherlock.

As demand for them grows, it seems that even co-creator Mark Gatiss has given up on the idea of there ever being another season, despite both stars being signed up for five seasons.

Speaking to The Sun, Gatiss reaffirmed that they were lucky to get both stars back for the decidedly lesser fourth season.

“I honestly don’t know if there will be any more. It’s incredibly difficult to get Benedict and Martin’s diaries to align. And obviously we left it in a very happy place…if that’s the end I’d be very happy where we left it.“The last day tends to be an odd day – it’s never quite as you imagine it. But we did actually try and contrive it so the very last shot was Benedict and Martin running out of the building. Then we realised that we had to do one last shot the next day of Martin falling over – so that’s how it ended. As usual these things end with a whimper.”

While nothing has been confirmed by either actors, the BBC or other co-creator Steven Moffat, it does seem unlikely that we’ll see Sherlock and Watson back again.
